Professional Practice in Schools

Overview

The Behaviour, Power and Practice in Schools course is designed to support educators in understanding how behaviour, authority, power, and professional practice interact within school environments.

Behaviour in schools does not exist in isolation. It is shaped by relationships, structures, expectations, and the use of authority. This course provides educators with a reflective and practical framework for examining behaviour management, professional influence, and decision-making, while maintaining safeguarding, inclusion, and ethical practice.

Participants will explore real-world classroom and whole-school scenarios involving behaviour, discipline, inclusion, power dynamics, and staff–student relationships. The course encourages educators to reflect on their own practice, understand the impact of power on behaviour, and apply consistent, fair, and safeguarding-informed approaches that support positive learning environments.

By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to:

  • Understand behaviour through the lens of power and practice

  • Apply fair, consistent, and ethical behaviour approaches

  • Reflect on authority, influence, and professional responsibility

  • Support inclusive and safeguarding-informed behaviour practice
