Racial Literacy in Education and Leadership

Overview

The Racial Literacy in Education and Leadership course is designed to support educators, leaders, and education professionals in developing the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to address race, inequality, and inclusion effectively within education settings.

The course provides a structured and balanced approach to understanding race, identity, power, and systemic inequality, with a clear focus on professional practice, safeguarding, and leadership responsibility. Participants will explore how racial bias—both conscious and unconscious—can affect student outcomes, staff experiences, decision-making, and organisational culture.

Through real-world case studies and reflective practice, the course supports participants in building inclusive environments, responding appropriately to racial incidents, and embedding racial literacy into policies, leadership approaches, and everyday practice. 

The course emphasises constructive dialogue, accountability, and ethical leadership, rather than blame, ensuring learning is practical and action-oriented.

By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to:
